International Hub
The educational value to our students of having
exposure to an internationalized campus and opportunities overseas
cannot be underestimated. The University is proud that it has consistently
succeeded in expanding horizons.
In 2003-04, 286 HKUST students spent one semester
at an institution outside Hong Kong and 12 went for a full year.
Meanwhile, 268 non-local students attended HKUST on exchange for
a semester and nine spent a year at HKUST. To implement this the
University has built up a network of more than 100 exchange partners
in the Mainland, US, Canada, UK, Western Europe, Asia, Australia,
Mexico, Czech Republic and New Zealand. Nineteen new partners were
added this year alone.
Campus has played host to visitors from around
the world during the year. They have included Nobel laureates, politicians
and top university administrators who hailed from Australia, Finland,
Germany, Ireland, Japan, Korea, Sweden, UK and the US, among other
countries. Academic agreements were concluded with institutions
in widely differing locations, including general co-operation with
the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology; and student
exchanges between the Leon Kozminksi Academy of Entrepreneurship
and Management in Poland, and Monterrey Tech University School of
Business in Mexico. |
