Staff
The HKUST Staff Association became the first organization
in the education sector to be named a Caring Company by the
Hong Kong Council of Social Service. In a further demonstration
of our campus spirit, donations from colleagues and friends
also saw the setting up of the HKUST Staff Association Scholarship,
which will make four awards to students per academic year.
Governance
During the year the Council, HKUST's overall governing body,
held three meetings to discuss university business and developments.
Four new Council members were appointed in April, namely Dr
Marvin Cheung (Council Vice-Chairman), Mr Alexander Au, Mr
Donald Chia and Mr Keith Kerr. They replaced Mr Philip Chen,
Mr Ronnie Chan and Mr Leo Kung. The University welcomes the
former and sincerely thanks the latter for their time and
service to HKUST.
The Senate, the University's supreme academic body, put in
much work to improve and refine the Preparatory Year Program
in line with the University's objective to internationalize
the student body. The program will assist non-local students
who do not have Hong Kong A-Level examinations, or equivalent,
to pursue degree courses at HKUST, and provide the University
with experience in developing four-year curricula.
The Court, the University's top advisory body, saw its first
group of Honorary Members appointed in February. The honorary
advisers are Sir David Akers-Jones, Dr Thomas Chen, Mr Christopher
Cheng, Dr Hari Harilela, Dr William Mong, Sir Run Run Shaw,
Dr Tsui Tsin-Tong and Dr Geoffrey Yeh. |
