The University Grants Committee's Teaching and Learning Quality Process Review Panel visited HKUST during the year and the resulting report noted 'significant progress' since the previous review in 1996. The panel cited, in particular, the Teaching Assistant training and support program, the setting up of Student-Staff Liaison Committees and their responsiveness to student feedback, and the impact of the Center for Enhanced Learning and Teaching (CELT).
One example of the way CELT is generating exciting developments is the Continuous Learning and Improvement through Teaching Innovation project, which was awarded a $6 million Teaching Development Grant from the University Grants Committee. This umbrella project involves up to 40 teaching innovations and enables HKUST to progress from individual teaching advances to planned initiatives that can spread throughout the University.
In another move to ensure quality of teaching, the Senate requested that the four Schools formulate a policy implementing a system of peer reviews for the evaluation of teaching.
