Moving ahead

Overall, in our drive towards further excellence this year, we have continued our research and development focus on several high-impact areas: biotechnology, nanotechnology and nanomaterials, logistics and information technology, electronic packaging and IC design, and environmental sciences and engineering. We have received local and international recognition through research breakthroughs, grants and collaborations in these areas and established further links with the Chinese Mainland through various partnerships, including the launch of the exciting Nansha Information Technology Park which will expand opportunities for Hong Kong companies and boost technological development in the Pearl River Delta.

We have increased our range of innovative degree programs and actively shared our knowledge advances in many different fields with the community through technology transfer and industrial partnerships, assisting Hong Kong's move to a knowledge-based economy.

In the past 12 months, we have also taken significant steps forward in the globalization of our campus. One of the cornerstones of a world-class university is a strong international student presence, and through our new International Students Office and further expansion of the student exchange program, HKUST is definitely moving into a more multinational era.
