HKUST's 10th anniversary celebrations were launched on 23 April both on and off campus, marking the official opening of the 10 months of programs.





HKUST hosted the biennial meeting of the Advisory Committee of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). W3C set up its first Chinese office at HKUST in November 1998.



On 4 May, over 80 non-local students of more than 20 ethnic origins enjoyed a relaxed social evening with representatives from the University administration at the International Students Gala, one of HKUST's 10th anniversary programs.




The Institute for Nano Science and Technology, first in Hong Kong, was opened on 15 May. Prof Chunli BAI, Vice-President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and Prof Sishen XIE, Director of CAS's Nano-research Center, were guests of honor at the ceremony.





Peking University's Guanghua School of Management and HKUST's School of Business and Management signed an agreement on 22 May to jointly offer an International Executive MBA Program in Shenzhen. The Program is specially designed for middle- to senior-level Chinese executives.











The HKUST Staff Social Club and various offices of the University jointly organized a farewell party for founding President Prof Chia-Wei WOO and his wife Mrs Yvonne WOO. Over 200 faculty and staff members and their families joined the party to express their gratitude to Prof and Mrs Woo for their contributions to the University.




The HKUST Staff Association (formerly the Staff Social Club) was officially established on 7 June.




HKUST's 10th Anniversary Roving Exhibition was held at Kowloon Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) Shatin Station, Landmark (Central), and KCRC Taipo Station on 8-11 June, 18-19 June, and 22-25 June, respectively. The Exhibition showcased to the general public the achievements of the University over its first decade.




An Honorary Fellowship was conferred on Mr Sing Cheong LIU, Chairman of Hang Cheong Surveyors Ltd, on 29 June. The award honors Mr Liu for his innovations in business management and his contribution to HKUST.





On 29 June, the University held a naming ceremony for the "Chia-Wei Woo Academic Concourse" in recognition of founding President Prof Chia-Wei WOO's outstanding contribution to the development of HKUST. The Ceremony was officiated by Dr the Hon Sze-Yuen CHUNG, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Court; Dr Vincent H S LO, Council Chairman; and President and Mrs Chia-Wei WOO.
