Meeting of young minds

In July 2002, the Pearl River Delta Forum, organized by the Student Affairs Office and the Students' Unions of the Schools of Science, Engineering and Business and Management, brought tertiary students from Hong Kong, Guangdong and Macau together at HKUST. More than 70 students and teachers took part in group projects, seminars and visits to share knowledge on the social and economic development of the Pearl River Delta region.

HKUST school student summer camps in physics, IT, engineering, mathematics and business inspired the younger generations to think about the importance of these fields.

In September 2002, Outreach Day proved a rewarding experience for 15,000 secondary-school students, families and teachers, who got to know first-hand what makes HKUST such a special place at which to study.

The first Hong Kong Physics Olympiad for secondary-school students in May 2003 saw over 400 young scientists from Forms 4-6 take part, with the 30 best receiving coaching from HKUST faculty for the next 12 months and a chosen few to represent Hong Kong at the International Physics Olympiad 2004 in Seoul.
