July 2001 |
On 2 July, some 100 HKUST Track and Field Team members and other HKUST athletes participated in a Mini-Torch Relay around campus to celebrate the 21st World University Games. |
HKUST hosted the Fifth General Knowledge Lectures for secondary school students between 9 and 12 July. This series of lectures covered a wide spectrum of subjects, namely wireless communications, indoor air pollution, civil and structural engineering, transportation, chemical engineering, globalization and education. |
August 2001 |
Close to 400 students, faculty and guests attended the Distinguished Lecture delivered by Nobel Laureate in Physics, Prof Steven Chu, on 6 August. The "Biology at the Single Molecule Level" lecture was a 10th anniversary celebration event. |
September 2001 |
The University opened its doors on 22 and 23 September to celebrate its 10th anniversary with the community. Close to 40,000 people, including HKUST members, secondary-school students and the wider public, joined the festivities at Student Outreach Day and the 10th Anniversary Carnival. |
The Shenzhen PKU-HKUST Medical Center, jointly established by the Shenzhen Municipal Government, Peking University and HKUST, opened on 26 September, offering the first MD-PhD program in the Chinese Mainland and Hong Kong. |
Shanghai master painter, Chen Peiqiu, was appointed second Y K Pao Distinguished Visiting Artist and HKUST Artist-in-Residence from 30 September to 31 December. |
