Phase III
There is a need to further enhance the University's
physical infrastructure to reach the next stage in its quest to become
a world-class university an institution that can help Hong Kong
truly become Asia's world city. To achieve this goal the University Council
endorsed a concept paper submitted to the University Grants Committee
in April 2002. It proposes an expansion of campus facilities to accommodate
around 10,000 students, in line with the Planning Committee's 1987 blueprint.
The development will include additional classroom and
teaching space, a large lecture theater-cum-auditorium, and an 80% increase
in laboratory space. Working on its first and second phase foundations,
Phase III will provide a tangible expression of the visions and aspirations
that guide the future development of the University.
