The PKU-HKUST Shenzhen Hong Kong Institution
Industry-Education-Research (IER), a tripartite partnership of the Shenzhen
Municipal Government, Peking University and HKUST, inaugurated the IER
building on 19 February 2002. IER's mission is to foster innovation, to
promote technology incubation and transfer, and to cultivate world-class,
high-tech personnel. The building comprises an educational wing as well
as a research and entrepreneurship wing, housing laboratories and facilities
for high-tech spin-offs.
A plaque unveiling ceremony for the Shenzhen-HKUST Medical
Center marked another milestone in the ever-closer collaboration between
HKUST, Peking University and the Shenzhen Municipal Government. The first
of its kind in China, the Center aims to produce world-class medical and
biotechnology research, and to educate top medical and life sciences professionals,
providing high quality health care and promoting the commercialization
of research achievements. An MD-PhD program was offered by the Center
in Autumn 2001.
