Faculty
First-rate faculty are the key to building a world-class
university. At HKUST, all our academics hold PhDs and we are continually
seeking to draw and retain both the top names who set the research and
teaching pace and international rising stars.
Our approved academic staff establishment for 2002-03
was 520 and at 30 June, 2003, there were 423 faculty on regular terms
and 41 senior visiting faculty at HKUST, with the rest of the positions
converted to a flexible budget provision for the appointment of other
visiting
faculty and teaching-related staff.
The reputation we have been able to build in the international
academic arena for our research and our graduates with this relatively
small number of faculty and just a 12-year history is testament to the
quality of work generated at HKUST.
Dynamic minds set on new discoveries transfer their
enthusiasm through research and teaching to postgraduates and undergraduates,
who in turn go on to keep HKUST and Hong Kong at the forefront of international
progress.
