Alumni
HKUST's first alumni began to show the outside world
the extent of their skills in 1993, and their numbers by June 2003 had
increased to 18,000. Alumni are our ambassadors-at-large. Maintaining
relationships with our graduates is therefore an important part of the
University's development work. They represent us through the success they
gain and the spirit they show in their many different endeavors. Letting
them know the strides we continue to make extends their sense of pride
in the institution that set them on their way.
Each year more alumni groups are inaugurated, with the
founding of the MTM Alumni Association, Drama Alumni Association and MBA
Football Club in 2002-03 bringing the total number of affiliated organizations
under the HKUST Alumni Association to 20.
Fostering this relationship is the priority of the Alumni
Relations Unit of the Office of University Development and Public Affairs
which offers a range of services to keep two-way communication flowing.
Publications, activities, homecoming dinners and special alumni benefits
are among the many different ways the Unit fulfills this task.
One of its major events during the year was the first
Alumni Spring Gathering which brought together about 100 graduates to
learn about the latest University developments, meet up with old friends,
and build new relationships.
