Staff and administration
Behind the University's faculty and students, a dedicated
and highly varied team of personnel are at work to ensure the direction
and smooth running of HKUST. These include top university administrators,
university development and public affairs personnel, the publishing technology
center, departmental and laboratory staff, technicians, and the estate
management and its team.
In 2002-03, we strengthened links between our administration
and the HKUST community with the Chairman of the University's Staff Association
becoming an ex-officio member of the Court.
The year also saw Prof Otto Lin, Vice-President of Research
and Development, retire from his position after more than six years. During
his tenure, the University has built up its research in several key emerging
high impact areas, established the infrastructure to promote technology
transfer, nurtured technology entrepreneurship and spearheaded the development
of the Nansha IT Park as a technology center to support the future technological
and economic integration of Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta.
Other University staff members have contributed to building
up the University in a variety of ways. Among them, Amy Lam, Clerk in
the Office of University Development and Public Affairs, became one of
the top four individual fundraisers among the 1,000 participants in the
'JUST Walk' sponsored event for the University's new student hostel.
Meanwhile, the Staff Association Football Team raised
spirits in February 2003 when they took on all challengers from other
local universities to win the Chinese University of Hong Kong's 40th Anniversary
Soccer Tournament 2003.
