The University's 10th Congregation,
held from 6-8 November, saw 1,817 Bachelor's, 615 Master's and 75
Doctoral degrees presented.
HKUST's inaugural S S Chern Lecture was given
on 9 November by Prof Chen-Ning Yang, the 1957 Nobel Laureate in
Physics. He spoke on the evolution of the concept of vector potential.

The
10th Annual Conference of the Hong Kong Institution of Science was
held on 2 November at HKUST. Guests included Prof Ching-Fai Ng, President
of the Hong Kong Institution of Science and President of Baptist University,
Financial Secretary Mr Henry Tang, then Secretary for Commerce, Industry
and Technology, and President Prof Paul Chu.
