On 20 February, the University announced the launch of a four-year Dual Degree Program in Technology and Management to be offered by the School of Engineering and School of Business and Management from September 2003. Annual admission is limited to 30.

More than 100 people celebrated the first Alumni Spring Gathering, held at the University on 22 February. Faculty, administrators and former Students' Union Presidents were in attendance.

 

Financial Secretary Mr Henry Tang, then Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology, visited the campus on 27 February. He toured facilities for HKUST's high-impact areas of study and was briefed on the University's research and development culture.

HKUST continued its success at the IEEE International Solid-State Circuits Conference, the top international forum for integrated circuit design technology, known as the 'Chip Olympics'. HKUST researchers' appearance at the San Francisco meeting, held from 9-13 February, marked the fifth consecutive year and sixth time the University had been invited to attend. Among those representing HKUST, Post-doctoral Associate Dr Vincent Cheung from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, presented a paper for the third time.
